From April 1951, Porsche no longer used lever shocks to dampen the rear suspension and the new telescopic rear shock absorbers commenced. The original body design was modified for a couple of months and then new side castings of the rear torsion tube are changed from June 1951 to accommodate the upper shock absorber mounting hole.

Rear torsion tube inner rail panels that box off the inside of the casting and conceal the heater tube intake also change at this point of production.

This panel is welded to the heel panel, rear seat panel and rear frame junction plate - see (CS157RFJPL)
